Ford’s $10m Powershift punishment

Ford Australia has admitted it could have done more to help customers in the wake of a $10 million fine after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission took the carmaker to the Federal Court. The ACCC receivied hundreds of complaints from Ford owners whose Powershift transmissions were malfunctioning. The consumer watchdog said Ford had suggested to owners it was their driving style, and not the faulty transmissions, that were responsible for the problems. Ford allegedly also charged customers to have the problems recified. It is now working on compensation packages for some owners.
