“If you lament the loss of great ride quality in modern cars, then welcome to Subaru country” (Soft Serve, SUV megatest, June). Having regularly driven a third-gen Subaru Forester, I can confirm it rides over manhole covers, potholes and speed humps in the suburbs with aplomb.
Far too many new vehicles have an unacceptably harsh low-speed ride, and this is a deal-breaker for me. You feel the ride 100 percent of the time, but require handling perhaps 10 percent of the time. Anything else is just misguided marketing over-riding good design for tyre and suspension specification and calibration.
