Tobias Moers also confirmed a new four-cylinder AMG engine is on the way, likely to break the 300kW barrier and take the fight to Audi’s 294kW RS3. “It’s a cool number,” he said of breaking the 300kW barrier. “So, sure, why not?”
So will the new four-cylinder form the basis for a new-gen V8? Moers says that’s some way off.
“The [current 4.0-litre] V8 is still new and there’s still improvement [to come] regarding efficiency, power output, things like that,” he said.
“[With the current cars] the four-cylinder came first, then the V8, so maybe the same story now.”
