Family matters

SUZUKI’S Vitara range just keeps on growing, with the arrival of a turbo-diesel model to complement the willing 1.6-litre entry-level petrol engine and the 1.4-litre ‘Boosterjet’ turbo.

The diesel's big appeal is its frugal 4.9L/100km fuel number, at least 15 percent better than the rest of the Vitara lineup, and among the most frugal compact SUVs.

But the Vitara diesel doesn’t come cheap at $35,990, albeit with a standard six-speed dual-clutch ’box driving all four wheels. And its generous spread of gear almost matches that of the Vitara S Turbo.
