FOURS FOR PORSCHE BOXSTER, CAYMAN

FOUR-cylinder versions of the Boxster and Cayman will arrive in 2016 as part of a repositioning of Porsche’s most affordable models.

To be badged as 718 Boxster and Cayman, the two models will switch places in the range, with the Cayman becoming the cheaper of the two.

Power will come from a turbocharged flat-four, expected to be 2.0 litres in capacity for entry-level versions, producing around 179KW, with a more potent 224kW 2.5-litre version expected for the S, which will be pushed to 276kW for the GTS.

The move continues Porsche’s downsizing trend, and follows the 911 which now features smaller, turbo engines across the bulk of its range.
