Hackenberg hits the sack

Dieselgate has claimed the scalp of Ulrich Hackenberg, who resigned after being suspended from his role as technical chief. A 30-year veteran of the company, Hackenberg’s work extends from the original Audi 80 to ground-breaking cars like the aluminium Audi A2 and VW XL1. He also developed the MQB platform that’s forecast to underpin more than six million VW Group products, and the company’s modular longitudinal toolkit. “He had that idea already in the early nineties at Audi,” said VW Group CEO Matthias Mueller. “Today, the entire Group profits from it.”
