It’s been a good 15 years since the Tiptronic automatic became a standard feature in everyday cars. You’d think manufacturers would have got it right.

Nope, not after reading Son of a Gun (November). Having taken away the manual the least these manufacturers could do is give drivers the right set-up; a backwards tap for upshifts.

Start throwing in flappy paddles as standard and you’ll Ti i i b have a happy bunch of drivers and an indifferent bunch of everyone else.
