I had the opposite experience to Samuel Mir (Holden on, Inbox, November). I have disliked Holden from the day I bought a new JB Series Camira SL/E in the early 1980s on the back of it being the 1982 Wheels COTY.
Early on things did not go well with poor finish and interior bits not working, and the engine was gutless.
After three years of ownership it turned out that most of the panels had not been undercoated and the blue paint peeled off to reveal a thin layer of rust. Out of warranty, I was offered half of the ‘repair’ cost by Holden, but decided to cut my losses and buy a Mazda. I have never looked back.
If I had liked that Camira I could well have bought another six or seven Holdens over the years. I wonder how many others bought their last Holden in the 1980s. Now, a Falcon XR6 Turbo – maybe I could be convinced...
