We have another Korea change

HIGHLIGHTS In a month that grew 2.9% over the same period last year, a repeat drive-away deal boosted Hyundai’s facelifted i30 hatch to the top of the best-seller list for the second time this year. Of note is the rise of sports car brand Porsche; it moved 487 units in September, placing it just outside the top 20 manufacturers’ list behind Lexus, and outselling more affordable brands such as Skoda, Volvo, Peugeot and Citroen. Renault also pushed above 1000 sales for the month.

LOWLIGHTS It was bad enough when Ford dropped to number six in the sales race in August, losing to Mitsubishi by 220 sales. In September, though, the margin grew to 1114 units, with Ford-badged passenger cars suffering the most. In fact, take away the Ranger utility’s 2471 sales and Ford would have finished 12th behind luxury brand Mercedes-Benz. Meanwhile, the end is in sight for the boxy Toyota Rukus hatch, pulled due to lacklustre sales.

SUZUKI VITARA

WINNER BIG INCREASE

It had only been officially on sale for two weeks in September, but Suzuki’s Mazda CX-3 rival instantly found 352 buyers to give it a 4.1 percent slice of one of the hottest segments in the Australian market.

NISSAN ALTIMA

LOSER 45% DECREASE

Nissan is fighting a good campaign with its V8 Supercars field, but the Altima’s strength on the racetrack isn’t being reflected in the showroom, where the mid-sizer attracted only 58 buyers in a segment that grew by 700-plus sales.
