Jaguar cautious on A-Class rival

A RIVAL to the Audi A3 or Mercedes A-Class is not on Jaguar’s immediate radar, says design director Ian Callum. “The DNA would work,” he told Wheels when asked if the company’s current design language would successfully translate to a C-segment hatch or sedan.

“[But] when you get into that lower sector, the business case becomes hugely challenging.”

Callum also cited Jaguar’s smaller volumes compared to BMW, Mercedes and Audi as limiting the brand’s ability to cost-effectively expand its line-up.
