BAIT & SWITCH

WELL said, Gary Russell (Inbox, Wheels June). To watch V8 Supercars live, it’s now necessary to buy a pay TV subscription. Yes, we all saw the big advertising campaign last year for motor racing on Channel 10: “Every qualifying, every race – live” was the promise. They just forgot to mention that to watch it you would need a Fox Sports subscription. False? Maybe not.

Misleading? You bet.

V8 Supercars has given us all the middle finger for the almighty dollar. And it’s not as though there was no alternative. Channel 7 has done an admirable job – even if the ads drove us nuts – but they were blown out of the water by the Fox/10 offer to V8 Supercars. This is an amazing display of arrogance by the V8 bosses and one which I’m sure they will live to regret.

The V8 Supercar bosses should remember that out of sight is out of mind.

They just forgot broadcasting live coverage of all meetings over the last few years – even if the ads drove us nuts – but they were blown out of the water by the Fox/10 offer to V8 Supercars.
