Google on public roads

TESTING of Google’s own autonomous car has moved to public roads. The tech giant will have its vehicles running around the streets of Mount View, in Google’s native California, albeit with ‘safety drivers’ aboard. Limited to 40km/h, they will have removable steering wheels as well as brake and accelerator pedals to allow the ‘driver’ to take control if necessary. Google began testing a fleet of converted Lexus RX450h SUVs on public roads in 2012, days after the Californian senate passed a bill allowing testing of autonomous vehicles on its roads.
