Mazda MX-5 to be $15K cheaper

THE new Mazda MX-5’s price will begin at $31,990 for the 1.5-litre version due in August. That’s a whopping $15K less than the outgoing hardtop-only model’s $47,290, and just $2000 more than its Toyota 86 rival. Mazda Australia denies this 30 percent price cut is in response to the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ, but acknowledges that buyers of the outgoing model may feel ripped off. “Some people [who paid almost $50,000 for the third-gen MX-5] will be disappointed,” Mazda’s Karla Leach told Wheels, “but it’s acknowledging our need to get back to MX-5’s core values of light-weight, low-cost fun.” going o e els, o the n.”
