End of the luxury car tax?

LUXURY car tax is shaping up to become a hot talking point for the newly formed Australia-Germany Advisory Group. One of the federal government-backed group’s aims is to “identify opportunities for increased trade and investment,” which may lead to a free trade agreement being formed between the two nations. Yet Mercedes-Benz says a trade agreement cannot proceed while there’s a luxury car tax. “You can’t have an FTA in our opinion if you have a false tariff,” says spokesperson David McCarthy.
