Vale Francois Michelin

FRANCOIS Michelin, grandson of Michelin’s founder and CEO of the company from 1955-2002, has died aged 88. Michelin was instrumental in the introduction of the revolutionary Radial X tyre in 1949 and helped expand the tyre company’s business globally, especially in North America.

He also sold its car-making business Citroen to Peugeot PSA in 1976 and hired a certain Carlos Ghosn (now head of Renault-Nissan) in 1978.

French president Francois Hollande paid tribute to Francois Michelin, calling him “one of the greatest French industrialists in the post-war years”.
