Volvo to build US plant

VOLVO, growing in confidence under Chinese owner Geely, will construct its first factory in the USA. “Volvo Cars cannot claim to be a true global carmaker without an industrial presence in the US,” Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson said.

“The US is an absolutely crucial part of our global transformation and today’s announcement makes it perfectly clear that Volvo is in the US to stay.” As announcements go, this one had little substance.

Volvo would not say where the plant would be (South Carolina and Georgia are rumoured), when it would come online, or what it would build.
