FEB 2015

A record February and itís not a leap year

HIGHLIGHTS A figure of 90,424 new vehicles sold in the second month of 2015 makes it the best sales result for February on record. It was 3606 more than February 2014, and overwhelms the 0.2% decline in January for a year-to-date growth figure of 4.2%. Yet again, itís SUVs leading the charge with the small-SUV sector posting 50% growth, medium 14% and large 19%. Amazingly, private SUV purchases grew by 24.3% over February 2014.

LOWLIGHTS The passenger vehicle segment fell 6.6% as the SUV takes over the Aussie motoring landscape like a feral rabbit. And itís business thatís holding back, with a 3% fall in contrast to private purchases that were up 6.1%. Even the Mazda 3 suffered. Though it remained our second-best seller, its 3598 sales were down from 3969 in February last year. The Toyota Corolla, Camry and Volkswagen Golf were the only cars in the top 10 to increase sales.

HYUNDAI ix35

Itís hard to believe the ix35 is near the end of its life given its sales success. It sold 1856 in February, up from 1636 in January, and its 16.9% year-to-date sales increase puts it second only to Mazdaís CX-5 (2085).

FORD KUGA

Selling only 240 Kugas in February (282 in January) is a far cry from this time last year, when 508 were sold, but Ford has pinned its hopes on new diesels Ė which have been restricted in supply Ė reigniting Kugaís spark over the next few months.
