JAN 2015

New year, same success stories

HIGHLIGHTS The 2014 SUV juggernaut continued for the first month of 2015 with a 6.9% overall increase in SUVs, limiting damage for the overall market (-0.2%). One in three passenger cars sold in Australia is now an SUV. Itís still C-segment hatches and sedans at the top, however, with Mazda 3 up front after being beaten by the Toyota Corolla overall in 2014 (43,735 against 43,313). The 3ís 3903 sales saw it lead by 431 cars Ė bigger than the 422-car margin Corolla pipped it by last year.

LOWLIGHTS While the Holden Cruze was a standout for Holden and fourth overall, one spot ahead of Commodore, Fordís Falcon finished a dismal 51st in January (381 sales) and the Territory 34th (639). In fact, Commodore Ute sales (387) were enough to fend off the Ford sedan. While the market was down by 0.2% year-on-year, Great Wallís woes continued (-90%) and for Alfa Romeo (-70%), itís 4C sports car and updated Giulietta range canít go on sale soon enough.

PEUGEOT 308

WINNER INCREASE 63%

The new 308 was a COTY finalist and is already making an impact. Its 124 sales in January were nearly double the previous monthís and will only be bolstered by the recent arrival of 1.6-litre and range-topping GT models.

HOLDEN CAPRICE

LOSER DECREASE 48% D 4

Hyundai said it was targeting the Caprice with its Genesis sedan and the Korean is already in the lead - 56 sales in January compared to 55. Year-on-year, Capriceís sales have almost halved, but can Genesis maintain its lead?
