Commodore name to stay

THE imported replacement for the Aussie-built Commodore will still be called Commodore.

GM international operations boss Stefan Jacoby confirmed that the iconic nameplate – which replaced Kingswood in 1978 as the brand’s volumeseller – will live on once local manufacturing ceases by 2017. “We will continue with the Commodore nameplate,” he told journalists at the 2015 Detroit motor show. Jacoby said the heritage and history of the model – as well as the need to reassure Australians the Holden brand was here for the long haul – was behind the decision.
