Supra prices have gone ballistic in recent years and some are asking close to a hundred grand for the twin-turbo. While you or I mightn't pay that for one it seems someone will, or close to that, which means if you can find a good, original cheapie, you're laughing.

Itís coated, appropriately, in Panorama Silver with almost matching cloth trim. This absolute pearler from the DíAlberto family collection hasnít been registered and has travelled only 1308kms. It wears the build number 333, matching the other Gp A SS models up for grabs at the same auction. No wonder bidding was so fierce for this piece of Aussie muscle history.

FETCHING another record price was this superb 1985 VK Blue Meanie. I wonder if the buyer of Brockís finest work was the same person who grabbed the other Group As being auctioned. Would be nice to keep them corralled. Like all the SS models owned by the D'Albertos from new it wears build number 333 and has clicked over just 2300 kms. You'd be hard pressed to find a better example.

The Permanent Red paintwork is unblemished and the grey interior as clean as a whistle. Sure itís a lot of coin, but being the last GM factory Brock, itís got a great pedigree and history.

YOU COULD have knocked me down with a feather when I saw the sale price of this LC GTR. Sure it is a plum and has set a price record and only travelled 67,613 kms and the mechanicals have the correct matching codes, but the fact remains itís a GTR and yet was pushing up into XU-1 territory. It begs the question if this is a benchmark or an aberration?

DE TOMASO PANTERA GT5

THESE GHIA-DESIGNED GT5 Panteras are extremely rare. Only 252 were made, powered by a Cleveland 351 V8 supplied by Ford Australia with a fivespeed manual. This combo was good enough for a top speed of 256km/h. Setting it apart from its predecessor, the GT5 was fitted with a large rear wing, equally large front spoiler and side skirts. It was also more luxurious.It was designed by an American, Tom Tjaarda, who was working for Ghia at the time. Given their rarity and overseas pricing and interest, this original Italian classic might well be a prudent buy.

1954 CITROEN 2CVSA

I BET our own Jon Faine would love this in his collection. It sports a 375cc two-cylinder engine and four-speed manual gearbox and is finished in grey metallic with marron wheels and green canvas seats. It is the earliest Citroen 2CV Shannons has ever auctioned and this one was built in Slough in England. It has a ribbed bonnet, like the early 1948 models and has been lovingly kept by the one owner for the past 20 years.

THE REVERED BMW M3, especially the E36 guise is an affordable modern classic with a huge following. The E36 is the first M3 to be sold here and this beautiful coupe is finished in the rare combo of Boston Green with light grey interior. Powered by the signature straight six, this one being 3.2-litres, it has a six-speed manual gearbox bolted to it. Offered with no reserve, it ended up going out the door for a bargain price.

Wonder if will ever get a run in anger or live quietly in a collection?
