Vette Vicissitude

Colin Morris, Perth

Thanks for a very interesting and wellresearched series on Corvette. It is rare for any Australian article to resist the usual slang statements on American cars.

I am a Corvette addict having a ’74 Big Block coupe I purchased in Los Angeles in 1976. I’m an NCRS level four judge and enjoy touring the country judging Corvettes for originality.

On the issue of drum brakes, if they are in correct order they are more than adequate. The J56 option of sintered iron drum brakes was from 1959, and although an average of $40 for the option, very few cars have them.

I have a 435hp L71 I purchased in 1986 in Bowling Green, Kentucky; restored it in the late '80s. I believe this to be the first “body off” restoration to NC RS standards of a C2 in Australia.

Cooling problems prevented the release of the C3 so the C2 ran another year, ’67 into ’68. Need more info? drop me a line.

Streuth, Colin. Impressive is just how dedicated readers are to their forte. Keep the Corvette flame alive. Thanks for the compliment, we’re a broad church at UC, and appreciate cars for their worth. Not a Prius obviously, but you get the hint.
