The cast of the Peter Brock mini-series has been announced, with Matthew Le Nevez to play the lead role as Mr B.
The series was set to be aired this year but has been pushed back until 2016 – appropriately timed with the ten year anniversary of Brock’s 2006 death.
Le Nevez has starred in Offspring, Love Child, and even played Dennis Lillee in Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War, among other roles in Blue Heelers, All Saints, and Love My Way, making him well-suited for a role the Unique Cars audience will want to see played as authentically as possible.
Other cast members include Natalie Bassingthwaite as Julie Bamford (Brock’s partner before he was killed), Ella Scott Lynch (also from Love Child) as Bev Brock, Aussie silver screen legend Steve Bisley as Harry Firth, plus Brendan Cowell as Ford hero Allan Moffat.
You’ll be glad to know Le Nevez was preparing for the role long before he was an actor. “I watched him in telly with my dad as a kid,” he says, “winning at Bathurst nine times…He was an icon not only of Australian motor racing, but of Australian sport.
He was one of the first – if not the first – Australian athlete to advise at the Olympics without being an Olympian. I hope to respectfully tell his story in a way his family and friends might be proud of.”
Head of Communications at Endemol Shine Australia (the series production company), Bronwen Hodgson, says the show has not begun pre-production at this stage, so we’ll all just have to sit tight.
But you can rest assured we will be doing our best heckling to bring you more as it comes to light.
