TROY PETERSON 1968 CHEVROLET CAMARO

“I BOUGHT my ’67 Camaro from Melbourne as a present for myself. The paint and panel had already been done, although the 454 was in unknown condition and the T400 trans was slipping in second gear. As I am a mechanic it was the best starting point for me. I pulled the big-block to repair the leaking rear main seal, and one thing led to another. It now has an alloy-headed 30thou-over 454 pushing out over 450hp at the wheels. The T400 got a thorough rebuild with plenty of tough bits as needed.

I then pulled out the single-spinner 10-bolt rear and fitted a 12-bolt with Truetrac and 3.30 gears. It’s a nice cruiser that has run a best of 11.98@118mph. I love cruising with my family and sharing the car with mates – even the occasional date night with my lovely wife!” Pics by Matthew James Imagery.

DEAN VARDANEGA (AND DAD) 1979 FORD ZJ FAIRLANE & 1975 FORD TD CORTINA

“MY FAIRLANE runs a 302 V8 backed by an FMX trans. It has power steering and air-conditioning from the factory, but other than that I don’t know much about the car. My father’s snow-white 2.0-litre four-cylinder Cortina has been in the family since 1976, when my great-grandfather bought the car brand new from Keith Gill Motors, and has been owned and loved ever since. It is untouched and 100 per cent original.”

MATTHEW VARDANEGA 1975 FORD TD CORTINA XLE

“THIS is my Cortina, running a 250 2V and four-speed. It was originally orange with vinyl roof, but I stripped it down for a long and heartbreaking seven-year rebuild. The car is a factory six-cylinder, and my father, who is a mechanic by trade, rebuilt the motor and had a 2V head shaved, ported and rebuilt with a 350 Holley to suit. I’m a panel beater and Cortina did all the bodywork and rust repairs myself with the help of a fellow workmate, laying down the custom Lamborghini Orange pearl paint. I then had the seats and trim redone in tan leather with orange stitching to match the paint, and added a set of Simmons FR17 three-piece rims with redwalls to finish the car off.”

PAUL & JANEY RUTHERFORD HX HOLDEN ONE-TONNER

“HERE is my HX tonner. It’s powered by a Holden 355 stroker with ported VN heads, Harrop high-rise manifold, 750 HP Holley and MSD ignition. Trans is a Turbo 400 with 3000 converter running to a nine-inch rear with 3.25 gears. It has a WB Stato interior but I have plans to restyle it and repaint the exterior. There’s nothing better than getting the car out on the weekends and cruising with my mates.” Photo: Static Photography

TURBO TONY DATSUN 120Y (TIMES TWO)

“I JUST saw a photo on your Facebook page of a Datsun 120Y running a 265 Hemi, so I thought I’d send in a few pics of my 120Ys. The black one is my pride and joy – we call it ‘Stupid Orcrzy’. It runs a high-comp, high-revving little 253 combo backed with an M21 four-speed. It’s got full interior and is a real time capsule inside. The blue one is my daily driver, running the original A12 and four-speed with a TD04 turbo and a whole Frankenstein of bits and pieces: Solex 32 DIS carb, Mazda carb hat, Silvia intercooler, and just a whole mess really!

But it’s a pretty fun daily anyway.”

STEVE & SALLY LUESTENER HK HOLDEN PREMIER

“OUR Holden HK Premier runs a 540ci big-block Chev, TH350 transmission and a tubbed rear, with a set of 15x10in rims clad in 275 ET Street radials. It has run 10.80@125mph, and we cruise it regularly on Saturday nights.”
