“MY FRIENDS and I built my XR6 together. The engine now runs Ross Racing pistons; Spool rods; Tunnel Vision plenum; Jim Mock Motorsport exhaust manifold; Precision 6766 turbo with a Turbosmart 50mm Pro-Gate wastegate; ID2000 injectors; Tunnel Vision twin-feed fuel rail; and twin 044 fuel pumps with a surge tank, running E85. It’s all controlled with a Haltech Sport 1000 with wide-band control. Gearbox is a T56 six-speed manual with direct twin-plate clutch, running to a Harrop Truetrac with 4.10 gears. It puts out 420kW (563hp) at the wheels at 20psi. Body mods include a Scorcher front bar and Tickford EF body kit.” Photos: Luke Hunter
“THIS is my LX hatch. It came with a 253 and four-speed, but after a six-year build it now runs a 350 Chev with a Scat Platinum-series crank and rods, SRP forged pistons, Crane cam and Edelbrock RPM heads port-matched to a BDS blower manifold. It’s topped with two 650 Mighty Demon carbs and a 6/71 blower. The full-manual Turbo 400 and 3200 stall runs via a custom tailshaft to a Strange nine-inch with 3.5:1 gears and 35-spline Moser axles. This is my dream ride; she puts a smile on my dial. We even ran an 11.6 at the Northern Nats on street tyres and a full 120L drop tank of fuel. I’m still running her in, but can’t wait to get her on the dyno! “I BOUGHT my HX in 1979 and fully rebuilt it over five years. I used it as our wedding car. My eldest daughter loves it, but my youngest daughter used to make me drop her off half a kilometre from school because she didn’t want to be seen in it!”
“THIS this is my daily hack, a 220kW Series 3 XR8, with just your basic cloth trim and boring auto. I treated it to a lowering job, some PDW C-spec rims, detailed and painted the engine and have added some Fairmont/Fairlane leather and chrome to the interior (gearknob, handbrake lever, etc). Other than that, I’ve just spent time cleaning and driving it. I guess I have to thank my wife Renee for putting up with the attention I give it!”
“MY SIX-speed manual 2001 VU ute runs an LS1 with extractors and full-stainless twin exhaust with high-flow cats. It’s been lowered on 20-inch wheels. I’ve only had it for six months, so it’s a work-inprogress, with a few mods and detailing planned for the future.”
