Describe how your business came about.

When Turbosmart founder and CEO, Nic Cooper was playing around with turbo cars back in the 1990s, he started turning up his own blow-off valves on a lathe, and that went on to become our first product. Nic’s passion for motorsports, and manufacturing in Australia are both a driving force behind the Turbosmart objective, which is to provide effective boost control that fuels our customers’ obsession for horsepower.

How many years have you been in business?

2017 will be our 20th birthday – We’re quite excited about that.

How many people do you employ in Australia?

Around 30 in our corporate and manufacturing facility in Western Sydney

What would you say is your niche – what do you really specialise in?

Focussing on the principles of flow, response, and control, we engineer then hand assemble the highest quality, most reliable, and best performing turbo accessories possible. They really are the very best boost control products on the planet.

What is your company’s best-selling product?

It would have to be our blow-off valve range. It is the product line that started it all, and it is what we are best known for.

What are you currently developing?

I’d love to tell you, because our engineering department is currently working on so many cool things. All I can say is keep your eyes peeled for our product releases at the SEMA show in Vegas later this year, and in 2017. It’ll be worth the wait.

Do you collaborate with other Australian businesses?

As much as we possibly can. We love working together with our customers, the tuners and workshops within Australia. And of course, our Australian suppliers.

What do you import from overseas?

The best people in the business. Our extremely capable staff base is made up of a very diverse range of cultures and backgrounds… oh you meant products? Virtually nothing.

How much do you export overseas?

Roughly 60 per cent of our product is now exported to either our own subsidiary companies Turbosmart UK and Turbosmart USA, or to one of our distributors in about 50 countries around the globe.

How much of your work is for Australian clients/customers?

Approximately 40 per cent, our Australian customers have supported us and helped us become the international company we are today.

What achievement or product are you most proud of?

In recent years, we’ve won several SEMA new product awards for our 120psi eBoost boost controller, and our range of sensor capped wastegates and blow-off valves, which has been fantastic because it is always nice to be recognised by your industry and peers. We were also awarded the Australian Export Award in 2015, but for me our greatest achievement has been being able to consistently grow the company, and develop a range of increasingly excellent products, without resorting to offshore manufacturing.

Turbosmart is still proudly Australian owned, and all our products are all designed, engineered, and manufactured under the one roof in Western Sydney.
