This month we talk to Damien Lowe from LOWE FABRICATIONS

What is your business name and what do you do?

Lowe Fabrications. We sell top quality, Australian-made automotive accessories. We also have a sheetmetal fabrication shop, an in-house powder coating service, and a custom vehicle building division.

Describe how your business came about.

I’m a sheetmetal worker by trade and I’ve been mucking around with modified cars since I was old enough to drive. Over the years I fabricated a number of custom dress-up items for my VB Commodore ‘CHU88Y’, and my mates began to ask if I could make similar parts for their cars. From there, demand grew to a point where I launched Lowe Fabrications and worked with a number of suppliers to develop a comprehensive product range.

How many years have you been in business?

15.

How many people do you employee in Australia?

With the recent addition of the custom car building and powder coating arms of the business, I now have six fulltime employees.

What is your company’s best-selling product?

Our billet strut top caps to suit first generation Commodores were one of the first products we released and they are still extremely popular today.

We have just treated them to a bit of a redesign to keep them fresh, and like all our products we can now supply them in any number of custom powder coated finishes.

What are you currently developing?

We’re seeing that LS engines are becoming increasingly popular, so we’re looking to further develop our range of LS hardware. We already do rocker covers, timing covers, engine mounts, dipstick handles, power steering reservoirs and a few other bits and pieces, but there’s always room to expand.

Do you collaborate with other Australian businesses?

Absolutely. We make some of our products in house, but we’re proud to have forged strong relationships with other Australian businesses which provide us with the sort of quality, locally made products our customers demand. We proudly use and recommend Tuff Mounts engine mounts, for example, and are a leading Tuff Mounts dealer. Even our merchandise (shirts, hoodies, stubby coolers etc) are sourced through Australian businesses, and designed and printed locally.

What do you import from overseas?

The only imported product in our entire range is our billet brake booster check valve, which we source from America. Everything else is made in Australia. All of our aluminium and stainless steel catch cans, radiator overflows and reservoirs are made in-house using top quality Australianmade Speedflow fittings..

How much of your work is for Australian clients/ customers?

We send a fair amount of stock to New Zealand, but other than that, all of our customers are here in Australia.
