CONGRATS to our mate Andrew Close, who fulfilled a long-time goal by cracking an eight-second pass in his 100 per cent streetdriven VTII wagon. The single-turbo 427ci LQ9-powered family truckster (featured in SM, December 2013) ripped off an 8.71-second pass at 162mph at Heathcote over the Christmas break and was driven to and from the track. Damn impressive!

THE ninth Rare Spares Legend award was presented at Street Machine Summernats to Australian Confederation of Motoring Clubs President, Tony O’Donnell. Tony joined the late John Taverna, Rod Hadfield, Peter Fitzpatrick, Owen Webb, Chic Henry, Drago Ostric, Howard Astill and our own Geoff Seddon, as those recognised for their contributions to the sport of street machining. Tony has worked hard behind the scene in many capacities, including his support for many events, but he is most famous for his work with the NSW RMS to get a better deal for modified car owners, including the current trial concessional rego scheme.

NO TIME for rest, because the March issue of Street Machine will soon be with us! Inside you’ll find coverage of WA’s monster Motorvation show, as well as the Victorian Hot Rod Show and the Bright Rod Run. Feature cars include Ron Berry’s insane Kombi, the latest projects from former SM Expression Session guru Ryan Carter, a tough circuit-style Dodge Dart and the world’s coolest VH Vacationer. Plus we screw together the slushbox for Project Torana. On sale 25 February.
