DAY THREE SATURDAY 09 JAN

S C H E D U L E

AS BIG as Friday is, Saturday invariably tops it. The Meguiar’s Pavilion is open all day until 4pm, giving everyone a chance to eyeball the show cars – and you’ll need it, as the Friday night gets pretty packed.

The arena will also be packed with street-class cars, as well as the Miss Summernats competition from midday.

The burnout eliminations run from 1pm until 4pm, when the Burnout Masters take the stage for their qualifying runs.

Then as the sun sets, the arena starts to fill up in anticipation of the Supercruise – including many cars straight out of the Elite Top 60 and the Burnout Masters. The contenders for Grand Champion compete for points in the grass driving events in the middle of the oval, the Rare Spares Legend award is bestowed, and when the cruising is done, the kids are treated to a fireworks show at 9pm and Oz rock legends the Hoodoo Gurus hit the stage at 9.30pm. How cool is that?

LIQUI-MOLY BURNOUT MASTERS

THIS year’s Liqui-Moly Burnout Masters is shaping up to be the biggest ever, with 31 starters already qualified for Saturday’s eliminations, and there are still three more entrants to come from the Last Chance Shootout wildcard show. That’s 34 of the country’s best tyre-turners going head-to-head in the Summernats pit for a spot in the Top 10 finals.

Last year’s winner Brett Battersby will be back with BLWNLUX, as will Fred Watson (FEAR), Rick Fuller (LSONE) and the rest of last year’s Top 10, including LYNCHY, CUTSIK, GMHAZD and 1TUFHG. They will be joined by the likes of Steve Nogas (KILLAB), Steve Loader (UCSMOKE), Ryan Pearson (HOLDON), Adrian Cuthbertson (SKIDMA) and Dave Cufone (1FATRAT), along with a whole bunch more.

Saturday’s eliminations kick off at 4pm, after three hours of Summernats burnout qualifying, and finish up at 6pm, just in time for the always-spectacular Saturday night entertainment and Supercruise. So drop whatever you’re doing Saturday afternoon and make sure you’re in Canberra for that – it’s going to be insane. Then stick around for the finals on Sunday at 2.30-3.30pm, to see who gets the $15,000 and title of Liqui-Moly Burnout Master.

KIDS’ STUFF

THERE’S plenty of stuff for kids to do at Summernats – apart from checking out cars, that is!

For starters, there’s the Kids Club, located between Central Park and the Summernats office, with rides, activities, giveaways and much more.

There’s also the Kids Crazy Awards, given to those who are creative with the inventions they bring to Summernats, whether it’s a hat, pedal car or even a stroller. Head down to the Kids Club on Friday at 11am for the judging. It’s all in the name of fun.

Also, keep an eye out for the Crazy Crowd Awards.

These will reward those spectators who are just having a good time and stand out in the crowd.

The announcers from Radio Revhead will be on the lookout during Saturday for the winners! 237
