ONE of only two Falcons entered in Drag Challenge, Anthonyís budget-built wagon looks oh-so-cool and packs a bit of a controversial powerplant. ďItís an old 150,000km LS1 out of a VX with a cam in it,Ē Anthony says. ďOther than that itís pretty well standard besides the exhaust and auto.Ē
Anthony took the lazy manís approach to Drag Challenge, packing only a jack, two wheels, a rattle gun and a 21mm socket for the 1500km, five-day epic, and impressively thatís all he needed. ďIt runs on pump fuel so I just fill it up at the servo and keep cruising. Itís been pretty consistent, and I did 14 passes at Heathcote!Ē
Anthony built the car to drive long distances, and because of that, Drag Challenge really appealed to him. ďIíve always wanted a car that I can drive to the track, race and drive home again without laying a spanner on it, and for this event if you just want to have fun and arenít out to win it, itís perfect.Ē
Incidentally, Anthony assures us that itís far easier to put an LS1 in an XD Falcon than an early Commodore. Who would have thought?
