JAMES GRAHAM

HOLDEN VH COMMODORE

“WE USED a shitload of fuel, but the car drove awesome and it was reliable,” says James Graham of his VH Commodore. Lucky he was hauling over 500 litres of E85 in his trailer, then!

“It’s an early-headed 308ci stroked to 355ci and built by Randall Mortier at Headz Up Performance,” James says. “It’s got a flattappet cam and 12:1 comp on E85.” Backed by a Turbo 350 with a 5200rpm converter and a Borgy with 3.9:1 diff gears, it proved handy for solid 11-second passes all week long.

James and his mate Dean Gianginis in another early Commodore cruised together all week and spent a few nights swagging it under the stars for the authentic ‘roughing it’ Drag Challenge experience. “We just plodded along, rolling out swags in truck stops by the side of the road, having a fire and a few drinks.

My brother Brenton from B Customs was with me and he did all the fab work on the car. We had a ball.”
