“IT’S AN LS3-based 416ci stroker,” says Dean Gianginis of the tough aspirated V8 powering his VK. “Higgins and Glenn Wells screwed it together and it came out with almost 800hp. It runs a Turbo 400 with a 5500rpm converter. It’s still running a BorgWarner with all the good stuff.”
Dean had some hassles that meant he wasn’t able to turn in a timeslip at Portland on day two, but he continued to participate nonetheless and managed a scorching 9.69@137mph on the final day of competition – a full second quicker than his personal best from before the event.
“The event was shit-hot; there’s nothing better than getting the cars out of the shed and cruising with the boys,” he says. “It was kind of a lastminute decision to come. I didn’t make my mind up to go until 10 o’clock on the Wednesday, and I called up Scotty and said: ‘Mate, I need to get in on this!’
“We had the VK and James [Graham’s] VH cruising together and we were driving as far as we could and then crashing in the swags by the side of the road.”
