CARL TAYLOR

CHEVROLET BEL AIR

MUCH like his mate and drag racing adversary John Kerr, Carl Chevy Taylor has had a long and colourful relationship with his ride a 1962 Chev Bel Air and has done no shortage of kilometres in it travelling to and from events. Ive owned it for over 20 years, he explains. We did quite well in Super Street and won the 2013 Australian Championship.

Weve made five national event finals and managed to win three of them.

The engine is a 409ci W motor stroked out to 476ci and is making around 525hp. With his recent move into Super Sedan, Carl has added a 100hp-shot of spray into the mix and has run as quick as 10.39. In the interest of reliability and longevity Carl was running a more conservative nitrous tune for Drag Challenge, and was making passes in the vicinity of 10.7 seconds.

Ive been doing this sort of stuff for a long time, only because Ive had to, he says. I cant afford a tow vehicle or a trailer and I dont have anywhere to store it, so its a necessity for me to be able to drive it to and from the track.

The event is me to a T; I love this sort of stuff. In 2013 when we won the championship I drove from Sydney to Portland and back. I drive the car to the Winters too, so Im no stranger to being able to get in the vehicle and drive it copious amounts of miles. Its a good old thing.

True to form, Carls Chev completed the round trip to Drag Challenge from Sydney without a hitch.
