ADAM rode shotgun in his mate Nathan Ghosn’s Capri at Drag Challenge 2014 and got a taste for the event, so he was pretty keen to be in the driver’s seat this time around in his tough HQ one-tonner.
“This year I made sure my car was ready, and I’ve learned from this event so that I can improve on my preparation for next year,” he says.
“I had a bit of a mishap at Portland when the car slipped off the jack. It dented the sump to the point that the crank was hitting on it, so I borrowed a welder and a D-shackle, welded it to the sump and pulled the dent out with a strap. Other than that the car ran great.”
The tonner’s 406ci small-block Chev runs 18-degree heads and a Dominator carby and makes about 660hp, backed by a Turbo 400 and nine-inch.
Consistent low-10-second pace was good enough to land Adam in second place in the Outlaw Aspirated class.
