BMW HAS plugged the substantial gap between the M4 Competition and hardcore GTS with the new CS, revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show.
Despite lacking the trick water-injection system from the GTS, the CS still produces 339kW/600Nm from its 3.0-litre twin-turbo six, increases of 8kW/50Nm over the M4 Competition.
Weight is shaved courtesy of lightweight wheels, now wrapped in trackfocused Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, and the use of carbon fibre for the bonnet, front splitter and rear spoiler. Combined with the extra power, this diet drops the CS’s claimed 0-100km/h time to just 3.9sec and allows it to lap the Nurburgring in 7min38sec.
A local release is not yet confirmed, but BMW Australia is hopeful of getting its hands on a limited supply towards the end of 2017. – SN
