RUF ‘YELLOWBIRD’ SPREADS WINGS AGAIN

GERMAN mega-tuner RUF has built itself an awesome reminder of just how mental its CTR Yellowbird really was for the model’s 30th birthday.

What looks like a 964-era 911 tarted up as a CTR clone is actually a carbonfibre tubbed sports fighter. Steel subframes suspend A-arms at all four corners, while carbon-ceramic brakes help keep weight down to 1200kg.

While the body and chassis are RUF, the powerplant is all Stuttgart. A Mezger-spec 3.6-litre water-cooled, twin-turbo flat-six is the heart, which RUF has tuned to produce 522kW and a terrifying 880Nm.

It’s still rear-engined, and it’s backed by a six-speed manual feeding power through a limited-slip diff to 19-inch rims. RUF says it’ll do 0-100km/ h in less than 3.5sec and 200km/h in less than nine. Top speed? 362km/h. Just 30 will be built, and priced at a cool 750,000 Euro, or AUD$1,044,000. – TR
