PERFORMANCE hybrids are appearing quickly, in more ways than one. The flagship of Porscheís new Panamera range is the Turbo S E-Hybrid, mating the 404kW/770Nm 4.0-litre twinturbo V8 with an electric motor to produce a combined 500kW/850Nm.
Despite the near 2.3-tonne kerb weight it zaps from 0-100km/h in 3.4sec on its way to a 310km/h top speed, but being a plug-in hybrid it also offers 50km of electric-only driving. Itís also loaded with every possible option, including carbonceramic brakes, active anti-roll bars, torque-vectoring and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The Turbo S E-Hybrid lands in Australia in Q3 2017 with an equally massive $460,100 price tag. The next-gen Cayenne and Macan performance heroes are expected to follow suit, but Porsche is reluctant to use the technology in the 911 for now.
