HOT ON the heels of the excellent Skoda Octavia RS230 reaching Australia (see page 116), a hotter RS245 variant has appeared, now offering 180kW/370Nm from its 2.0-litre turbo engine to match the facelifted VW Golf GTI Performance.
Like its predecessor, it benefits from a mechanical limited-slip differential to help put this power to the ground, but unlike the manual-only RS230, the RS245 is also available with VW’s new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the combination of which cuts the 0-100km/h claim to 6.6sec.
Available as a wagon or sedan, it’ll be making its way to local shores towards the end of 2017, a little behind the regular Octavia RS range, now offering 169kW/350Nm (up 7kW), which will debut in Australia around mid-year.
Aside from the performance increases, the facelifted Octavia range scores an upgraded infotainment unit as well as controversial new front-end styling reminiscent of the W212 Mercedes- Benz E-Class.
Local pricing will be available closer to the new Octavia’s launch.
