IF PORSCHE gives up on the flat-eightís engine development itíll at least have a new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 lying around to shove in the 960ís back.
The new engine, revealed at the 37th International Motor Symposium, is Porscheís latest weapon itíll use to combat AMG I t d h 4 s a M P i and BMWís small-capacity V8s and will succeed the current 4.8-litre twin-huffer V8 serving in the Cayenne Turbo and Panamera Turbo.
Despite losing 800cc to the current 4.8-litre it makes 404kW/769Nm (29kW/119Nm more than an AMG GT S), the latter online soon as 1960rpm thanks to the turbos now nestled in the unitís vee.
Hybrid friendly, itíll serve duty for various VAG brands on Audiís MLB platform married to an eight-speed auto, while itíll be linked to a dual-clutch eight-speed on Porscheís MSB platform.
Expect its debut in the 2017 Panamera.
