VW’S GOLF GTI ‘40 Years’ edition, as it will be known here after ‘Clubsport’ was ditched to avoid stepping on HSV’s toes, is set to land at $48,990 in limited numbers.
Thankfully, Oz’s 40 Years will not brandish smaller berries than its global counterparts and will pack the full 195kW and 380Nm EA888 engine it was revealed with.
An overboost function, which temporarily inflates power to 213kW, means the 40 Years will also outmuscle our 206kW Golf R.
All initial cars will score a dualclutch six-speed unit, but VW tells MOTOR it’s working with Germany on securing a six-speed manual.
Offered in red or white, Australia’s five-door 40 Years will be fully equipped, besides a $1850 sunroof, and feature an edition-specific aero package, trick stickers, alcantaradraped seats and steering wheel, 19-inch alloys, and a hydraulicallylocking front differential.
