MARCH was a gangbuster month for SUV and light commercial (LCV) sales, with three utes (both 2WD and 4WD) in the top five for March, with Toyota Hilux (ranked number one), Ford Ranger (second ) and the Mitsubishi Triton (fifth). The SUV and LCV segments combined now account for 60.1 per cent of the new-vehicle market.
The Navara was up 58.8 per cent over the same month last year (although itís down 12.9 per cent year-to-date), Colorado sales were up 42 per cent (up 9.5 per cent YTD) while the Land Cruiser cab/chassis was up 34.2 per cent (up 16.7 per cent YTD).
The 4WD wagon segment also saw some sharp rises, with the Pajero Sport (launched in December, 2015) up more than double the volume it achieved in March, 2016 (and up 86.5 per cent YTD). Land Cruiser 200 sales have increased 50.9 percent (32.2 per cent YTD).
