LAND ROVER PROJECT HERO

LAND ROVER’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) unit has created the ‘Project Hero’, a unique version of the new Discovery that’s designed for use by the Austrian Red Cross.

Shown at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, Project Hero is based on the 3.0-litre TD6-powered Disco, but adds a heavy-duty sliding floor in the rear load space, a segregation panel behind the rear pews, and additional LEDs and power points.

Helping with remote search-and-rescue operations is a roof-mounted aerial drone with a world-first, fully integrated landing system, meaning it can land on the Disco when it’s in motion. The drone has a transmitand- receive range of one kilometre.

The tech will be trialled by response teams over the next year.
